Abstract

736,460. Gas burner apparatus. SCHNAUTZ, P., [trading as SCHNAUTZ, P., [Firm of].]. June 22, 1953 [June 23, 1952], No. 17164/53. Class 75 (1). Apparatus for arresting flash-back in gas supply pipes for welding appliances comprises a cylinder 1 having a gas inlet pipe 2 containing a check-valve 5 adapted to be opened by the pressure of incoming gas, a pressure relief valve 18 controlling one or more outlet(s) 12 to the atmosphere, and a gas outlet pipe 11, whereby a flash-back of flame from the burner apparatus connected to the pipe 11 causes the check valve 5 to close and the relief valve 18 to open to divert the combustion gases into the atmosphere, and additional protection is provided by a gas-pervious plug 7 adapted to prevent passage of flame therethrough and retained within the cylinder 1 between the check and relief valves by a plate 8 screwthreaded into the cylinder 1, and in which the outlet or outlets 12 is or are formed. The valve member 5 is supported by a spring 19 on the plug 7, and the valve member 12 is slidable on the pipe 11 being biased to its closed position by a spring 15 supported by a nut 16. A protective cap having apertures 24 is screwed on to the plate 8.
