Abstract

827,272. Universal joints. SOC. APPLICAZIONI GOMMA ANTIVIBRANTI SAGA S.p.A. March 13, 1958 [March 14, 1957], No. 8132/58. Class 80 (2). In a universal joint having rubber 12 bonded between crossed arms 10, 11 secured respectively to the driving and driven members, each arm comprises two sector-shaped portions 15 having radial extensions 16 secured together at the centre 30, and having axial wings 19, 20 extending from the radial edges 17, 18 of the sector. The rubber elements 12 comprise sectors 12a, 12b bonded to the wings 19, 20 and to an intermediate metal plate 13. The arms 10, 11 are made from sheet metal and have a radial slot 21 and offset legs 23 to allow coplanar assembly and spot-welding of the complementary legs 22, 23 to provide static compression of the rubber 12 on assembly. The wings 19, 20 extend in opposed directions on the driving and driven members respectively, the space between the wings receiving the members which are secured thereto through holes 25.
