Abstract

1,028,352. Flexible couplings for shafts. LORD CORPORATION. Aug. 6, 1964 [Aug. 20, 1963], No. 31992/64. Heading F2U. A flexible coupling includes driving and driven members 1, 2 and a plurality of joints between fingers 5, 7 on flanges 4, 6; each joint comprises a semi-spherical member 10, Fig. 1, fixed to a finger 5, a member 16 having a concave semispherical face 17 and a semi-cylindrical face 20, and a member 14 connected by a pin to finger 7, the member 14 having a concave semi-cylindrical face 24, Fig. 6. Bonded to face 17 is an elastomer body 21 having bonded therein semspherical metal plates 22 and bonded to faces 20, 24 is an elastomer body 24 having bonded therein semi-cylindrical metal plates 27. The semi-spherical parts of the coupling are concentric; but the centres of the plates 27 are spaced so that their edges 29 are farther apart than their edges 28, Fig. 6, to equalize the load on the elastomer between the plates.
