Abstract

872,550. Universal joints. TWIFLEX COUPLINGS Ltd., and FREEMAN, K. J. July 13, 1959 [July 11, 1958], No. 22378/58. Classes 80 (2) and 80 (3). In a flexible coupling of the articulated type as described in Specifications 696,076 and 731,814 each driving lug 22 is connected to its adjacent lugs by a pair of links 29, 37 so that in operation one link is in tension and the other in compression. As shown the lugs 22 are formed integrally with arcuate members 13 attached to the driving and driven hubs 10 by locating pins 18 held in position by metal straps 20 engaged by the securing bolts 16. Each link 37 is in the form of a single bifurcated member, while the link 29 is made up of two separate spaced members. The link pivots are of the bonded rubber sleeve type.
