Abstract

660,876. Universal joints. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. July 23, 1949 [July 26, 1948], No. 19443/49. Class 80 (ii) A flexible shaft coupling comprises rubber links 1 connected in tension between axial pins 13, 14 on shaft flanges 11, 12, the pins being at different radial distances on the two flanges such that the links are substantially tangential to the circle traced out by the inner pins 14. Each pair of pins may be connected by a group of links mounted on sleeves 7 rotatable on the pins, the end bosses 2 of the links, with spacing washers 10, being compressed between flanges 8 on the sleeves and nuts 9 thereon. The holes in the links may be reinforced by wrappings of adhesive cloth or by metal bushes bonded therein; or metal washers may be bonded to the ends of the bosses 2.
