Abstract

917,680. Universal joints. SILENTBLOC Ltd. March 6, 1961 [March 4, 1960], No. 7844/60. Class 80 (2). A universal joint consists of pins 4 passing through spiders on the driving and driven members 1, 2, embedded in flexible bushes 5, and interconnected by tangential torque-transmitting members 6 and radial or diametral members 7 which resist relative lateral movement of the driving and driven members. As shown, the members 6 are of rubber or like material, while the members 7 are in the form of diametral flexible metal leaves or plates. In further embodiments the members 6, 7 both consist of loops of flexible material such as nylon cord, Fig. 4 (not shown), or the members 6 are of looped form and the members 7 of flexible metal leaves, Fig. 6 (not shown). Additional arrangements, Figs. 10 and 11 (not shown), comprise radial elements 7 of metallic leaf, or endless star looped, form.
