Abstract
673,552. Shaft couplings; universal joints. RENOLD & COVENTRY CHAIN CO., Ltd., and BURAWOY, O. Dec. 8, 1950 [Dec. 23, 1949], No. 32988/49. Class 80 (ii). In a chain coupling, rubber rings 22 are bonded to sprockets 24 and to the driving and driven hubs, a cover 28 being secured by a dowel 30 to one hub and making a running fit at 32 with the other. In a modification, the ends of the driving and driven members are cone-shaped, each rubber ring being bonded to one of the coned surfaces and to a plane surface on a sprocket. Forms of the invention are described in which the cover 28 is omitted, thus allowing universal motion between the two hubs. The rubber rings may be replaced by other rings of a similar material or may be made in segments, and may be connected to the hubs and sprockets by the interengagement of small studs, or by compression, instead of by bonding.
