Abstract

588,483. Hinges; chains. SILENTBLOC, Ltd., and TRIER, V. A. Feb. 21, 1945, No. 4397. [Classes 24 and 65 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXXII and XXXIV] A flexible chain comprises a series of links each consisting of two side plates E to one end of which is attached an inner part F and to the other end an outer tubular part J<2> ; the part J<2> has an annular part spherical inner surface J which surrounds an annular part spherical outer surface H on the part F and a bushing of rubber K is inserted between them and is caused to adhere to the surfaces by bonding or compression. The inner part F may be attached to the side plates E by a tubular pin G, the ends of which are expanded into chamfers G<1> and to prevent rotation of the part F on the pin each of the side plates may be pressed out as at G<2> to engage slots F<1>. The part F may be allowed to rotate on the pin G in which case the part F may be formed as an oil-less or self-lubricating bush made from a plastic material. The parts F and J<2> may be a force fit in holes in the side plates and may be additionally secured by expanding the ends of the members into chamfers or, according to the Provisional Specification, by welding.
