Abstract

853,416. Rubber bushes. METALASTIK Ltd. Oct. 7, 1958 [Jan. 21, 1958], No. 1977/58. Class 108(3). A leaf spring 6 is attached to a frame member 5 by pins 12 which co-operate with frame members 9, 11, and a shackle link 10. Each pin 12 has a central cylindrical portion which is received by a rubber bush 13 mounted within a sleeve 14 which is secured to the inner surface of the eyes of the spring or the inner surface of the member 11. The ends of the pins 12 have flat surfaces 15 which are bolted to corresponding flat surfaces at the free ends of the limbs 17 of the shackle link 10 or to a flat plate 20 which comprises part of the member 9. The rubber bush member 13 is radially precompressed by either contracting the sleeve 14' upon the bush or expanding the pin 12. In the latter case the pin 12 is of tubular construction. Both methods of precompressing the rubber bush may be used. When the sleeve 14 has been radially contracted the inner bore thereof is slightly less than the width of the ends of the pin 12. The ends of the sleeve 14 may be bent radially inwardly to form a flange which axially compresses the bush 13. Preferably the bush 13 is bonded to the pin 12 and the sleeve 14 is an interference fit on the bush 13. Alternatively the sleeve 14 may be bonded to the bush 13 as well as the bush being bonded to the pin 12. The sleeve 14 may be split longitudinally.
