Abstract

827,141. Accessory arrangements. CONTINENTAL MOTORS CORPORATION. July 17, 1958, No. 22957/58. Classes 7(2) and 7(3) Individual housings 15, 16 located between inclined or opposed cylinder banks form the sole support for fans 42 and for a fan and fuel pump drive shaft assembly 21, the housings being mounted by bolts 71, for disconnection as a unit, on crankcase faces 19, 20 lying in a plane parallel to the crankshaft and containing the axis of the shaft assembly 21. Fuel injection pumps 17 on either side of the assembly 21 are mounted on a member 70 bridging the assembly and are driven from an outer assembly sleeve 35 via gears 35b, shafts 37 and disconnectible couplings 36. The fans 42 are driven by inner torsion members 39, 50 of the assembly 21. The member 39 is splined at one end to the sleeve 35 where the latter is splined to a gear 22 driven by a crankshaft gear 14, and is splined at the other end in a fan drive gear 41 in which one end of the member 50 is slidably splined, the other end of the member 50 being slidably splined in a like fan drive gear 54. To disconnect the housings 15, 16 individually, the member 50 is slidden clear of the gear 41 and a clamp 59 is loosened to allow telescoping of shaft guard parts 57, 55b on disconnection of the part 57 from the housing 15.
