Abstract

689,660. Two-stroke and four-stroke V-engines. GRAF & STIFT AUTOMOBILFABRIK AKT.- GES. Dec. 6, 1950 [Oct. 25, 1950]. No. 29840/50. Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iv). The accessories, e.g. scavenging air blower 4, injection pump 5 and air compressor 6, mounted on engines having the V-shaped space between cylinder rows 1, 2 closed by a horizontal wall 3 are coupled to at least two shafts 17, 18 driven through a train of gears 8... 13 and projecting from a closed shell 14 which projects upwards from the wall 3. The shell may be secured to the engine casing 15 and removable together with the shafts and associated gears. There may be a shaft 26 driving the blower 4 which through a V-belt 199 drives a dynamo 20. Resilient couplings 22 may be interposed between the shafts and gears. The wall 3 may have openings 30 and provide a flat surface level with the tops of the cylinders for a cover plate 29 which allows the space 37 to be used as a scavenging air container. In a modification, the plate 299 is integral with the shell 14, the dynamo 20 being coupled by a shaft to the compressor 6 and the shaft 26 driving a centrifugal blower.
