Abstract

Classes 7 (ii), 7 (iii) and 7 (iv) [Also in Group XXVIII] A flat wall 4 forming part of the cast framework of a twostroke Diesel Vee-engine closes off the space between the cylinder rows 1, 2 to form a scavenging air receiver 3 and acts as a mounting plate for a centrifugal or, as shown. Root's scavenging air blower 6, a fuel injection pump 11 and its regulator 12, a dynamo 13 and a compressor 14 supplying air as for vehicle brakes. The blower 6 is driven by Vee-belting 17 from the engine crankshaft, and delivers air directly into the receiver 3 through casting core holes 25. The dynamo À13 is driven by a Vee-belt 19 from the blower 6. The pump 11 and compressor 14 are driven by toothed gearing 20... 23 from the engine crankshaft, the gears 20, 21 being enclosed in a casing 26 formed as an extension of a plate 15, or of one of a number of such plates, the plate or plates acting both as a cover or covers for further core holes 24 and as a base or bases for the blower, compressor and dynamo. There may be a single core hole 24 only.
