Abstract

A single cylinder moped engine has a balancing piston (22) which is at 180 deg. to the working piston (2). One end of the crank shaft (4a) carries a magnetic flywheel (12) and to the other end (4b) the drive pulley with clutch is attached. The piston head of the balancing cylinder is axially recessed (30) so that an air cushion is obtained. The engine installation on the moped is such that the cylinder axis of the working and balancing pistons are equally spaced about the vertical moped axis (15). The exhaust is below the balancing cylinder. It is VEE- shaped, recessed over the edge of the cylinder wall to increase the ground clearance of the moped.
