Class 52(5) Chairs, with automatic tip-up seats and easily bolted together in rows in a hall or cinema, each comprise a back 5 detachably connected to side members 1 of sheet material and a seat 9 pivotally mounted between brackets 13 bolted at 23 to the side members and each consisting of a rectangular plate having opposite corners 17, 18 cut at 15, 16 and bent towards a third corner to provide lugs 19, 20 forming stops for the seat in horizontal and vertical positions. Obtuse-angled plates 6 are bolted or screwed to the back and side members and arm pads 3, which are reversible end to end, are secured by studs 4 to bases 2 mortised to the tops of the side members. An angle strip 10, detachably secured to each side of the seat 9 by studs 11, is bored to receive a headed pivot pin 12 which extends through the bracket. Rubber buffers 21, 22 provide abutments against which the angle strips rest in horizontal and vertical positions of the seat. Specifications 241,095 [Class 52(ii)] and 623,785 are referred to.
