Abstract

826,251. Feeding webs. STRACHAN & HENSHAW Ltd. May 10, 1957 [July 4, 1956], No. 20721/56. Class 100(1) A device for regulating web tension comprises a tensioning roller 14, a support 19 mounted for angular movement around the axis of the roller 14, and a pair of guide members mounted on-the support in such manner that the web may pass between them so that when the support is moved angularly in one direction the angle of wrap of the web around the tensioning roller is increased and when the support is moved in the opposite direction the angle of wrap is decreased. As shown, a web 13 passes around a guide roller 11, the tensioning roller 14, and a guide roller 12. The angle of wrap of the web around the roller 14 is adjustable, so as to regulate the tension through a worm 23 and worm wheel 22 by a shaft 24 rotated manually or automatically as required. The support 19 carries a fixed roller 20 and a rotatable roller 21 between which rollers the web passes. The roller 14 may be driven in either direction through gearing 17, 18 or braked by adjustable braking means 16. The roller 20 may also be adjustably braked instead of fixed.
