Abstract

937,511. Feeding webs. A. LASZLO. Jan. 17, 1962 [Jan. 17, 1961], No. 1975/61. Class 100 (1). A web 2 of fabric is guided laterally by rollers 11, 12 and 31, 32, which may be driven by motors 17 and 37 respectively. The rollers 11, 12 may be pivoted about an axis perpendicular to the plane of the web 2. Normally, the axes of the rollers 11, 12 extend perpendicularly to the direction of feeding the web 2. An electric motor 21 pivots between stops, not shown, a bracket 13 carrying the rollers 11, 12 through bevel gears, a clutch and reversing gear in a housing 22. The clutch and reversing gear are controlled by a detector including a photo-electric cell 23 which senses the lateral position of the web. . Frame 27 is manually adjustable, to suit varying widths of web, by 7 for movement perpendicular to the direction of web feeding by means of a lead screw 39 rotated by a reversible electric motor 41, controlled by a photo-electric cell 33 which detects variations in width of the web. Nozzles 24, 26 and 44, 46 supply air under pressure to remove curl and maintain the web selvedge flat. According to the Provisional Specification any of the rollers may be replaced by a pair of rollers having a relatively short belt trained around them.
