Abstract

826,019. Pit props. PROPS ESTABLISHMENT. Feb. 13, 1956 [Feb. 14, 1955; May 20, 1955], No. 4416/56. Class 20(2) A light metal telescopic prop comprises, an upper tube 2, Fig. 3, axially movable together with an element 3 seated within a lock 7 incorporating locking wedges 16 acting upon the element 3, a lower tube 1 telescoping within the tube 2 and to which the lock 7 is connected by pin-andhole connection 9, 10, 11 to provide coarse vertical adjustment, and a lever operated eccentric 14 mounted on the element 3 and engaging the lock 7, the eccentric constituting means whereby the element 3 is raised in the lock 7 to provide fine vertical adjustment to set the prop. In another embodiment, the upper tube 2, Fig. 9, enters a lock 34 which has pin-and-hole connection with the lower tube 1 and carries therein a block 30 having an inclined face in engagement with a locking wedge 32 which in turn engages an inclined face of the lock 34 which is provided with an aperture 42 through which a projection 41 on the wedge 32 extends, a lever 35 being provided which acts between the upper tube 1 and lock 34 for axially moving the upper tube 1 within the lock 34 to set the prop.
