In shuttering for concrete slabs comprising vertical props with movable heads, beams mounted between the props and panels mounted between the beams so that the panels the tops of the beams and the heads define the shuttering surface, panel supporting elements are slidably mounted on the beams and can be moved from a locked position where the face of the supported panels is level with the top of the beams to an inoperative position where the panels are below the cast slab and can be removed. As shown, the beams have square section vertical members 19 on which the panel supporting elements 20 can slide vertically. The locking means for the elements 20 comprises a slab 22 with a keyhole shaped slot which engages grooves on bars 19 and the panel supporting element 20 provides a rectangular platform with projections at the four comers which engage the sides of the panels 10. At each end of the beams is located a projection 24 (not shown) with a recess in its underside and this is clamped to the head 13 of a prop 12 by a screw. The props may be joined by interconnecting members 31 attached to lugs 30 on the props. In use, a concrete slab is cast over the assembly of props, beams and panels, the tops of which form a level surface. When the concrete has nearly set, locking elements 22 are released, the panel supporting element 20 are lowered and the panels removed by freeing them from elements 20 and lowering them under the beams. When the concrete is almost fully set the beams may be removed leaving the formed slab supported on the props and prop heads.
