Abstract

746,083. Telescopic props. RAPID METAL DEVELOPMENTS, Ltd. Feb. 16, 1954 [Jan. 5, 1954], No. 227/54. Class 20(2). In a telescopic prop or strut of the kind consisting of an outer member 1 screw threaded at its upper part 3 to receive a lengthadjusting nut 6 engageable with a locking pin 11 passed through diametrically opposed slots 4 in the screw threaded part 3 and through a selected hole of a plurality of holes 10 in the inner member 2, the locking-pin 11 is provided on a keeper-loop 12 which surrounds the outer member 1 and lies on the nut 6, the loop 12 being laterally displaceable so that the pin 11 can be either engaged in or disengaged from the hole in the inner member. The underside of the loop 12 is undercut to form a shoulder 15 which engages the nut 6 and prevents withdrawal of the pin 11 when the prop is under load. The locking pin 11 may be mounted to swing about a pivot pin 14, Fig. 7, which bridges a gap 13 in the loop 12, or the locking pin may be solidly welded to the keeper-loop, Fig. 8 (not shown). A collapsible or stowable operating handle 8 for the nut 6 is attached by a pin 9 passing through a bent strap 7 welded to the nut 6.
