Class 75(3) In an electrically ignited cigarette lighter in which a liquid or gaseous fuel is ignited by a filament 31 energized by a battery and the wick or nozzle 33 is normally covered by a wick cap or nozzle seal. 23 which is moved away from the wick or nozzle 33 when the fuel is ignited, the igniter filament 31 is mounted on a carrier 25 which is movable to advance the filament 31 towards the wick or nozzle 33 to ignite the fuel and the carrier 25 or member 27 carried thereby is movable along a path such that as the filament 31 is advanced a part of the carrier 25 or the member 27 will, unless the wick cap or nozzle seal 23 is moved out of the filament path, engage the wick cap or nozzle seal 23 or a stop 15a movable therewith to prevent the filament being damaged by contacting a part of the wick cap or nozzle seal 23.
