Abstract
676,434. Electric igniters. FAULKNER, H. March 22, 1950 [June 10, 1949], No. 15477/49. Class 75(iii) An electrically operable lighter comprises a withdrawable plunger having a wick projecting from one end, at least the said end part being of conducting material, an electric circuit adapted to generate a spark when interrupted, a pair of contacts adapted to be electrically connected together by the conducting end part as the plunger is being withdrawn, both of said contacts being normally disconnected from the circuit but being movable by the plunger to complete the circuit, the contacts being disconnected with formation of a spark adjacent to the wick as the withdrawal of the plunger is completed and then returning to their initial position in which they are disconnected from the circuit. The shoulder p on the plunger e, when the latter is withdrawn, engages springs t carried on a disc u supported by light coil springs v and draws them into contact with spring contacts r, s, and completes the circuit through the conducting part o. When the plunger is drawn out the springs t are held in contact with the springs r, s by the frictional engagement of the springs t with the holder o and sparks are formed as the latter breaks contact with the springs t to ignite the fuel in the wick.
