Abstract

Lighting burners, pipes, cigars, and the like by electric devices.-An electric igniter comprises a movable member constituting a torch having a. casing adapted to be earthed and carrying an insulated electrode shaped so that it may be brought into contact with a metallic piece in electrical connection with the ignition system of a motor vehicle so as to cause a spark to pass to ignite the torch. In one form, a metal tubular member b having an insulating electrode formed by a wick-tube n, which is connected by a rod q and a cap r with a knob t, is adapted to be inserted in a fixed brass cup a, earthed by connection with the engine frame, so as to bring the knob t into contact with an insulated screw d, connected by a wire k with a sparking-plug of the engine, and thereby cause a spark to pass between the wick-tube n and an electrode u in the member b and ignite the wick o. When not in use, the perforated end m of the member b is inserted in the cup a. The screw d may be passed through the dashboard j and secured, together with the cup a and insulators c, g, by means of a rivet h. The wick-tube is perforated and surrounded by absorbent material v saturated with petrol or the like.
