Abstract

825,249. Printing machines. DOWNING- TOWN PAPER BOX CO. Oct. 28, 1957 [Jan. 25, 1957], No. 33525/57. Class 100(2) A web fed rotary printing machine comprises a plurality of impression stations A, B, C, D through which a web, 9 is passed to receive a plurality of relatively registered impressions, a printing cylinder 1, 2, 3, or 4 and an impression cylinder at each station for printing and feeding the web, a common power source for the couples and transmission means for operatively connecting the several printing cylinders in series with the source. As shown, the motor 12 drives the printing cylinder 1 through bevel gearing 14, 15, while the cylinder 2 is driven through a shaft 19 carrying a bevel pinion 18 engaging the pinion 15 and a bevel pinion 20 engaging a bevel pinion 21 on the shaft of the cylinder 2. The cylinders 3 and 4 are driven similarly. In a modification, each of the shafts of the printing cylinders carries two bevel pinions one meshing with a bevel pinion on the shaft driving the printing cylinder and one with a bevel pinion on a shaft for driving the succeeding printing cylinder.
