Abstract
825,134. Aircraft wings ; ship stabilizing fins. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. June 22, 1956 [June 24,1955], No. 19377/56. Classes 4 and 113. In a ship or aircraft having a stabilizing fin 11 pivotally mounted about a pivot pin 13 so that it can be swung out of and back into a cavity 19 in the body of the ship or aircraft, the fin is also pivotally mounted about an axis at right angles to the axis through said pivot pin 13. Turning of the fin about the second pivotal mounting is effected by the members of a rotary vane drive 12. The fin 11 is swung out by a crank lever 14 actuated by an hydraulic jack 15 which may be double-acting or the fin 11 may be returned by the pressure of the medium through which it moves upon the release of a lock. The lever and jack arrangement may be replaced by a rotary vane drive. In Fig. 1, the fin is mounted on an extension 20 of the shaft which forms the inner member of the rotary vane drive 12, but in an alternative construction the rotary vane drive is accommodated within the body of the fin.
