Abstract
857,852. Steering boats automatically. HASLER, H. G., and MAJOR, I. V. Feb. 22, 1957 [Nov. 22, 1955], No. 33482/55. Class 114. A wind-vane 29 detachably mounted in a rotatable frame 28 pivoting about a pin 27 and carrying with it a rod 26 linked to one end of a T-shaped member 21 pivoted at 22 to the deck rotates a shaft 15 through a floating link 18 pivotally connected at its ends to links 19, 17, the former being pivoted to the main rudder 1 and the latter to an arm 16 rigid with the shaft 15: the shaft 15 rocks a yoke 14 pivotally connected by a link 13 to a yoke 12 on an auxiliary rudder 10 mounted within the main rudder in the after edge thereof. The auxiliary rudder may be hydraulically balanced. The wind vane may be a single flat surface or a symmetrical aerofoil and the wind pressure be balanced by a counterweight 30. The pivot 27 may be ahead of the vane and an arm connect the vane thereto, the link mechanism being arranged to produce reverse movement in the auxiliary rudder.
