Abstract
696,759. Davits. MOORE, W. G., and ROUSE. W. C. April 23, 1951. [April 21, 1950] No. 9823/50. Class 115. In a gravity davit comprising an arm 16 and a stand 10 and having at least two pivots about which the arm swings outboard successively, a member 14 carrying the second operative pivot is in the form of a bell-crank lever, one arm of which extends inwardly and is pivoted at its extremity to the davit stand (so as to provide a first operative pivot 13 for the davit arm), the other arm extending downwardly and having the davit arm 16 pivoted to its extremity so as to provide the second operative pivot 15 for the arm. The outboard movement of the davit arm about the first pivot 13 is limited by a stop 21 on the ship's structure, and outboard movement about the second pivot 15 is limited by a slotted link 17 connected to and extending between an anchorage on the davit arm and a pin 20 on the lever 14.
