Abstract

729,879. Ladders. TAYLOR, H. G. Sept. 3, 1953 [Sept. 4, 1952], No. 22231/52. Class 20(2). When a ship's accommodation ladder is lowered for use about a pivot 23, the collapsible hand-rail 10 is raised by the tautening of a pendant rope 19 which is made fast at its upper end. The hand rail is a parallelogram linkage and the pendant'is made fast at its lower end to the pivot 14 of one stanchion and passes through an eye 21 on this stanchion or alternatively the pendant may be connected to one arm of a bell-crank lever the other arm of which is a stanchion 11. The rail is locked in erected position by a pivoted strut 25 adapted to be engaged with a pin 26.
