Abstract

580,246. Boat boom crutches. ELLDRED, J. M. (Representative of ELLDRED, P. J.). June 3, 1943, No. 8883. [Classes 113 (i) and 115] An arched structure adapted to serve as a boom supporting crutch or awning spreader on a vessel 1 is formed by struts 8, one disposed on each side of the vessel, which are movable in trunks 7 and deck fittings 4 from a stowing position to a raised position, as shown in Fig. 1, so that oppositely disposed struts co-operate on abutting at the top preferably by a manually actuated resilient locking device. The lower portion of each strut, when raised, can be used outwardly so that grooves in the strut engage projections 22 on the vessel, and at the same time the lower end face of the strut 8 moves over a fixed step 6 on the vessel. The struts are curved to a similar shape as the hull of the vessel so that motion in the fixed guide trunks 7 is continuous.
