Abstract

1,136,971. Gangways. NON-CORROSIVE METAL PRODUCTS Ltd. 11 March, 1966 [11 Dec., 1964], No. 50553/64. Heading B7J. A gangway for use between the shore 14 and a ship comprises a tower 12 anchored to the shore supporting a turntable 16 on which is mounted a walkway 22, one part 24 of which is pivotable in a vertical direction about an axis 20 and an outer part 26 of which is extendable to be attached to the ship by a hook locking device 32, the tower having a stairway (42), Fig. 3 (not shown) providing access between the shore and the walkway. The part 24 of the walkway is pivoted between trunnions 18 attached to upper turntable part 16a. Toothed wheels 52 fixed to the walkway and the turntable are acted upon by motors to manoeuvre the walkway into line with the ship and the part 26 is then extended on rollers 28 and locked to the ship. The motors are then disengaged so the gangway is free to move with the ship. In a modification, Figs. 4-6 (not shown) the tower is mounted on a turntable anchored to 14 shore and the walkway is pivoted about the top of the tower by means of a ram. The walkway may be built from a lattice of girders.
