WADING BOAT Application mea February 2s, 193i.' serial-frm.Y 519,144.
This invention relates to wading devices' and more particularly to a wading boat which is so constructed as to support the weight of the wearer in deep water.
5 An object of this invention is to provide a wading boat which may be used by anglers or the like, and which when in mounted position on the wearer, cannotbe readily capsized so as to render the device safe for deep water fishing.
Another object of this invention is to provide a device of this kind which is relatively small and light and constructed of such material as will not readily deteriorate.
l5 The above and various other objects and advantages of this invention will in part be described in and in part be understood from the following detailed description of the present preferred embodiment, the same being illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1 is a detail perspective view of a` device constructed according to the preferred embodiment of this invention, and
Figure 2 is a fragmentary sectional view taken through the boat.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 10 designates generally a wading boat constructed according to the preferred embodiment of this invention, which wading boat is of hollow construction and substantially annular or elliptical in shape. The boat 10 is preferably constructed of metal'or material which will not readily deteriorate upon Contact with water or the sun, the boat member 10 having a bottom 11, a top 12 of similar Vconstruction to the bottom 11, andan outer ring member 13, which is secured to the peripheral edges of the bottom and top members 11 and 12, respectively, An inner ring or member 14 is secured to the inner edges of the bottom and top members 11 andV 12, respectively, and these inner and outer members 14 and 13, respectively, maintain the bottom and top members in spaced relation to each other.
The boat 10 is preferably of closed construction so as to retain air or the like therein and if desired, a valve member 15'may be attached to the boat 10 so as to permit the insertion of air under pressure within the interiorof the boat 10. The boat 10 is adapted to be loosely disposed about the body ofthe wearer and is held in adjusted position on the wearer by means of suspending straps 16 which are attached to the boat 10 and are adapted to extend over the shoulders of the wearer so as to support the boat 10y preferably above the waistline of the wearer. The ends of the suspending rmembers 16'are attached tothe boat 10 by means of clips 17 or the like. f
A seat member 18 is dependingly supported from the boat 10 by means of strap members `19 or the like, which are .secured at one end tothe boat 10 and at the oppo-A `adapted tovv have attached thereto bait members or the like for Vuse by the fisherman. The boat 10 at the upper portion thereof is also provided with a boX or receptacle 21 for receiving tackle or other articles used by the fisherman. This receptacle 20 may be disposedy on either ythe front or rear portion of the boat 10 or at any other desired point on the upper surface thereof where it is convenient to the wearer and where it Vwill not rinterfere with ythe fishing operations.
In the use of this device, the legs of the wearer are disposed on opposite sides of the seat member 18 and the supporting straps 16 extended over the shoulders so as to support the boat 10 from the shoulders where the wearer is in water which is not sufliciently deep to support the wearerin a oating position. There the water is of suiicient depth,-the`boat 10 will rise abovev the waist and the wearer will be suspended within the boat 10 by means of the seat 18. Due to the fact that `the greater portion of the body of the wearer is suspended below the boat 10, it is practically impossible to .capsize the boat andon account of the annular shape of the device, it can vbe used by a fisherman or a laborer working about bridges or piers. The arms of the wearer are left free for any desired use and as only a slnall proportion of the boat projects beyond the body of the wearer, the boat permits the free movement of all of thelimbs of the wearer wliile at the same time holding the wearer in substantially vertical p0- s-ition inthe water.
While I have disclosed'tlie boat 10 as being constructed in substantially square cross sectional configuration, I do not wish to be limited to this particular. configuration as,y
if desired, the boat 10 may be constructed of any otherv suitable `cross sectional con? figuration. Y
It is, of course, understood that various changes and modifications may be made in f ,they details of construction and design of tlie above specifically described embodiment of this invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifeations being` restricted only by the scope of the following claim. f
I claim A wading boat of the character described comprising a ring-shaped boat structure of hollow construction, a pair of strap members adapted to engage about the shoulders and legs of the wearer, and loop members secured to said boat structure and' loosely engaging said strap members whereby to suspend the boat structure from the shoulfl f ders of the wearer.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
