Abstract

695,072. Boat-releasing gear. FAWKES, R. C. July 3, 1951. No. 15758/51. Class 115. In a boat tackle-engaging and release unit having a pin 4 or equivalent retractable element slidably carried by a body part 6 of said unit so as to be capable of bridging the space between spaced-apart cheeks 1 of the body, thereby to serve for the engagement of tackle lowered into the said space, the pin is urged by a pendulum loading lever 12, carried by said body, to assume the said bridging position, and is capable of slidable retraction in opposition to the loading effect of the lever so as to move clear of the space and release the tackle. The body of the unit includes a mounting presenting the spaced-apart cheeks 1 and having two parallel rows of holes 2, 3, enabling selection to be made from those of one row 2 for attachment of the body part or bracket 6, whereby the bracket can be fixed in the required position along the length of the mounting, the holes of the other row 3 affording the entry of the pin 4 in any selected position of the bracket. One unit is disposed at the fore end and one at the aft end of the boat, a cable mechanism 20, 22 being connected to the pendulum levers of both units and operable from a point 24 in the boat for simultaneous release of fore and aft tackles.
