Abstract

1,043,235. Oscillatory vane actuators. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. July 12, 1963 [July 13, 1962], No. 27011/62. Heading F1F. [Also in Division B7] An actuating mechanism for a ship's stabilizing fin comprises an hydraulic motor 4, not shown, of the rotary-ram type in which is carried on a rotatable fin shaft 5 and an hydraulic rotary-ram type folding motor having a stator 6 carried at the end of the shaft 5, a fin shaft 10 being carried by a motor shaft 8. The shaft 10 is equipped with forked parts 9 which are secured to the shaft 8 at each side of the stator 6. The mechanism housing 1 is attached to the outer side of the ship's hull by bolts located in holes 3 equipped with a fairing to reduce drag. Hydraulic lines 11, 12 and 11a, 13 are connected to the folding motor 6, 7. Interlocking means may be provided to prevent the folding operation from being carried when the fin is other than level.
