Abstract
824,021. Tubular heat exchangers. SERCK RADIATORS Ltd. Feb. 26, 1958 [March 11, 1957], No. 7897/57. Class 64(3) Relates to heat exchangers consisting of a plurality of similar units each comprising an assembly of parallel tubes k, n, extending between headers a, m, the header a having two compartments j, g therein such that fluid leaving inlet compartment g flows through the tubes k to the header m from which it returns to the outlet compartment j of the header. According to the invention the header compartments are formed within the header chambers by a tubular insert f on one end of which is freely mounted a sleeve h having a laterally extending spigot i for engagement with a pipe d interconnecting the headers a of adjacent units. In the apparatus shown four serially connected units are provided, fuel oil flowing through the tubes k, n of each unit and being heated by engine oil flowing through the housings of successive units and over the tubes therein from an inlet o to an outlet o<SP>1</SP>.
