Abstract

997,280. Heat exchangers; heating steam boilers by steam. BROWN FINTUBE CO. June 2, 1964 [July 12, 1963], No. 22770/64. Headings F4A and F4S. A heat exchanger comprises bundles of U- tubes 2 with a separate tube sheet 16 for each end of each bundle, and a common supporting member 7 for all the tube sheets, a conduit member 35 for each tube sheet communicating with the interior of the tubes, and fluid-tight seals between the conduit members and tube sheets and between the tube sheets and the supporting member 7 all made by sealing rings 33. The tube bundles shown are surrounded by a shell 1, which has a fluid inlet 12, and an outlet 13 for heated fluid, e.g. generated steam, the bundles being arranged in staggered relationship, and supported by members 41 and 42, resting on the lower inside surface of the shell, and spaced by sleeves 44, 45, carried on long bolts 43. A split ring or like stop 27 prevents inward movement of the tube sheets. The respective ends of the bundles are joined to a supply header 19 and a discharge header 20. The tubes may be fitted with longitudinal fins 52 or transverse fins 56 (Figs. 4-7, not shown).
