Abstract
823,871. Cooling pistons. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG - NURNBERG A.G. Dec. 17, 1956 [Dec. 20, 1955], No. 38450/56. Class 122 (1). A light-metal piston 1 is cooled by oil or other coolant passing through an internal coil 2 in the region of the piston rings having an outlet 3 leading to a cavity 4 forming a coolant reservoir in the piston head and having a coolant outlet 5. A detachable collar-like insert 6 projects into the outlet 5. The coolant is supplied to the coil through the connecting rod, gudgeonpin and a duct in the piston wall. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), for a forged piston, the coil 2 is replaced by an annular groove in the piston head, closed from above by a ring.
