Abstract
1352453 Cooling pistons SOC D'ETUDES DE MACHINES THERMIQUES 8 Oct 1971 46925/71 Heading F2T A piston for an I.C. engine comprises a monoblock body of spheroidal graphite cast iron having a gudgeon pin boss connected to the piston crown as by webs 9 and an annular cooling chamber 2 formed with walls which form the piston crown and the part of the piston which contains the upper ring grooves. The cooling chamber is supplied with oil through an inlet passage 13 which extends from a circumferential groove 14 in one of the gudgeon pin bosses and the chamber discharges the oil through one or more return oil pipes 16, Fig. 7. More than one oil inlet 13 may be provided and the central portion of the piston crown may be cooled by oil sprayers or jets fitted on the small end of the connecting rod.
