Abstract

1374059 Pistons MAHLE GmbH 21 June 1973 [23 June 1972] 29548/73 Heading F2T The head 2 of an internal combustion engine piston is connected to the body portion 1 by means comprising an intermediate ring 10 of bifurcated cross-section, the base of the ring being secured to the body portion by bolts 7 and the fork parts 11 and 12 being secured respectively by bolts 13 and 14 to concentric annular ribs 5 and 6 projecting from the underside of the piston crown 4. The cavity 17 formed by the ring 10 and the ribs 5 and 6 communicates with the coolant circuit through ports 18 and 19 in the ring which is of cast iron. The head 2 includes the ring-carrying portion 3 and is of aluminium alloys whilst the body portion 1 comprising the skirt and gudgeon pin mounting is of steel.
