Abstract

822,844. High-tension switches. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO. Ltd. Feb. 27, 1958 [Feb. 27, 1957], No. 6587/57. Class 38 (5). A circuit interrupter unit which is capable of being included as part of self-supporting framework comprises a contact housing 1, a pair of diverging insulating bushing assemblies 2, 3 and an insulator 4 mechanically connecting the outer ends of the bushing assemblies. Thus a number of interrupter units 1, 1<SP>1</SP>, 1<SP>11</SP> may be connected by links 13 and insulators 14 to form a self-supporting circuit-breaker assembly as shown in Fig. 2a. The interrupter units are preferably air-blast switches with the housing 1 forming the compressed-air receiver. The bushing assemblies 2, 3 each comprise a central conductor 5 surrounded by an inner condenser bushing 6 and an outer ceramic bushing 7. The insulator 4 may include capacitors and/or resistors providing shunt impedance across the interrupter contacts and an operating rod 15 for the moving contacts and/or the air-blast control gear may be provided in the insulator 14.
