Abstract
A hard metal alloy for cutting tools has a composition within the following range in per cent by weight; Ti carbide 82-90, a carbide of a metal of Group VI such as W 2.5-5, a carbide of a metal of Group V such as V 2.5-5, and a binder metal 5-8. The binder metal may be an alloy consisting of 10-90% of one or more metals of the iron group and the remainder Cr. The carbide, preferably in mixed crystal form, and the binder metal are pressed and sintered at a temperature in the range 1300-1500 DEG C. in vacuum or an inert gas.
