Abstract

1297748 Tool steel CRUCIBLE Inc 6 May 1971 13555/71 Heading C7A Tool steel, with good machinability and cutting performance, comprises:- C 1-4% Co 9-15% Cr 4-6% Mo 3À5-7% N 0À03-0À08% V 1-1À5% and W 7À5-13% the balance being Fe, apart from possible impurity amounts of Mn, P, S and Si. The steel may be made by hot pressing (e.g. at 1900- 2000‹ F.) to at least 95% theoretical (e.g. in a die or by pressurizing with inert gas); and the compact may be further densified by forming and machining operations. The nitrogen may be included in a melt of the alloy or by treating the powder with nitrogen after outgassing but before compaction.
