Abstract
1,272,847. Sintered ferrous alloys. AMSTED INDUSTRIES Inc. April 16, 1969 [Aug. 2, 1968], No.19430/69. Headings C7A and C7D. A sintered ferrous alloy consists, by weight, of Ni 16-20% Co 7-11% Mo 4-6% Ti 0À3-0À5% Al 0À05-0À15% Fe balance. The alloy may be made by (a) compacting powder of U.S. mesh size -80 at a pressure of 30-60 t.s.i. to achieve a density in excess of 90% of theoretical, (b) sintering in a protective atmosphere for at least ¢ hr. at 2000-2350 F., (c) cooling, (d) re-heating to 1500 F., (e) quenching, and (f) re-heating for at least 2 hrs. at an ageing temperature of 900 F. For the compaction step, 1% solid lubricant may be added to the powder mixture or the die walls may be lubricated. The examples relate to mixtures containing powder of iron, ferro-alloys, and, in some cases, elemental metals.
