Abstract
1,269,407. Alloys. IIT RESEARCH INSTITUTE. June 30, 1969 [July 11, 1968], No.32935/69. Heading C7A. A heat-resistant consolidated powder alloy consists, by weight, of C 0À5-4% W &/or Mo 5-60% Fe, Co &/or Ni balance, apart from impurities. The alloy may be made by (1) melting the desired composition, (2) atomising the melt to produce pre-alloyed powder, (3) reducing oxides present in the powder, and (4) consolidating the powder. Oxides may be reduced by (a) canning the powder and heating, the C present in the alloy acting as reducing agent, or (b) heating uncanned powder in a reducing atmosphere. Canned powder may then be extruded to bar, or hot pressed and then forged and rolled, followed by removal of the can. Un-canned powder may be cold pressed to form a billet and the billet then extruded to bar or hot pressed and then forged and/or rolled. Uses. Cutting-tools, dies and structural applications.
