Abstract
1,166,686. Nickel alloys; powder metallurgy; granulating. IIT RESEARCH INSTITUTE. Dec.29, 1966 [Jan. 3, 1966], No.58083/66. Headings C7A, C7D and C7X. A nickel-base alloy consists, in percent by weight, of Cr 12 - 17 Mo 3À5 - 6 Al 3.5 - 6À5 Ti 0À5 - 4 Fe up to 4 C up to 0À2 B up to 0À05 Co 0 - 20 Zr 0 - 0À15 Mn 0 - 0À25 Si 0 - 0À5 Cu 0 - 0À5 optionally Nb and/or Ta 1À8 - 2À8 Ni and incidental impurities -balance; the hardening phase of the alloy being uniformly dispersed in the matrix, their respective grain sizes being less than three microns and less than 50 microns. The oxygen and nitrogen contents should preferably be below 1000 p.p.m. and 100 p.p.m. respectively. The alloy is made by atomizing a molten charge to form powder which is subsequently consolidated, e.g. by sintering in argon, hot-pressing or extruding. As described, atomization is effected by an inert gas (argon) stream, while the consolidation operations take place on canned powder.
