819,299. Self-wringing mops. BETTERWEAR PRODUCTS Ltd. Nov. 12, 1957, No. 35233/57. Class 19. In a sponge mop head, a handle socket 1 has curved extensions 3 where. by it is pivoted to one, 4, of two plates 4, 10 each secured to blocks 9, 13 (e.g. of synthetic resin: which are themselves secured, with a gap betweer them, to a strong flexible canvas &c. members 17 carrying a flat sponge 18. the other plate 10 having a wire hinged thereto formed with a U-shaped end 14 adapted to engage the handle 2 and normally held in place by projections 16 on the socket. As shown the handle pivot 8 passes through lugs 7 extending downwards from a central raised hollow part 5 of the plate 4, and the wire, hinged by its ends in the corresponding centre part 11 of the plate 10, has curved parts 15 which abut against the plate surface when the wire is pressed in the direction of the arrow to squeeze the sponge 18 (the member 17 acting as a hinge) ; when the device is in use lugs 12 on the plate 10 underlie lugs 6 slightly offset from the plane of the plate 4.
