Abstract

744,251. Wringer mops. PHILLIPS TELESCOPIC TAPS. Ltd.. and BRADBURY. T. H. March 8, 1954 [March 7, 1953], No. 6378/53. Class 19 In a wringer mop comprising sponge material mounted on a pair of backing plates 1, 2, Figs. 1, 2, a handle 4 being attached to the plate 2, one end of an L- shaped link 5 is pivoted to the inner end of the plate 2. The other end of the link 5. is pivoted to the outer .end of the movable plate 1, to which is also pivoted a pressure link 7d The other end of the link 7d is held in a slide 8 which is free to move along the handle 4, the link being free to move within the slide 8 so as to effect final squeezing of the sponge when the plates 1, 2 have moved into parallel relationship (Fig 2). In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 5, the pressure link is attached to a sliding member 9 provided with pivot pins 12 and retaining pins 13 which enable it to be slid along a slot in the handle 10 and also pivoted during squeezing (Fig. 6 not shown). In this embodiment the sponge 18 is attached to the backing plates 14, 15, via a rubber backing member 19. According to the Provisional Specification a pair of sponges may be used, each sponge being secured by adhesive to a plate of plastic material which is attached to one of the backing plates by rubber studs which grip the walls of perforations in the backing plate.
