Abstract

793,671. Self-wringing mops. SPONGE PRODUCTS CORPORATION. May 22, 1956 [May 31, 1955], No. 15850/56. Class 19. In a mop a pair of sponge-carrying backing plates 4 are hinged to a head 1 and a handle 7 is pivoted to the head at 11 to swing about an axis 11 perpendicular to the axis 5 about which the plates 4 swing with respect to the head 1. A backing plate operating mechanism 26, 27, 23 is carried by the handle and arms 23 of said mechanism are swivelly connected to said plates to swing about axes 20 parallel to and offset from the axis of the pivot 11 of the handle. Thus on actuation of said mechanism to effect wringing of the sponge the plates and head are swung into a position substantially perpendicular to said handle against the action of a spring 14 and then the plates are swung into positions at right angles to said head. Stop means on the connecting piece 12 of the handle limit the movement of the handle relative to the head.
