Abstract

562,819. Carpet sweepers. BISSELL CARPET SWEEPER CO. March 1, 1943, No. 3323. Convention date, March 2, 1942. .[Class 138 (i)] The dustpans 6 of a carpet sweeper having a brush rotatable on a horizontal axis are pivoted about axes 7 and springs 9 which press outwards are connected to the pans by means of pivots 11 which are so placed that when the pans are in the closed position the springs 9 tend to keep the pans closed, but when the springs are raised by means of a lever 12, the springs act upon the other sides of the pivots 7 so that the springs tend to hold the pans in open or dumping position as shown. The open position is a slanting one as the motion of the pans is limited by contact of the springs with pins 18. When the sweeper is placed on the floor with the pans in open position, the weight of the sweeper will move the pans to closed position. Specification 529,546 is referred to.
