Abstract
792,892. Sponge mops. AMERICANMARIETTA CO. June 13, 1956 [June 20, 1955], No. 18230/56. Class 19. Linkage means 28, 29, 30, 30a, 31, 32 extending between an operating member 13, 12, 27 mounted on the handle 10 of a sponge mop and the means 11, 19 by which a sponge 24 is pivotally connected by a pin 24 at the end of the handle causes the sponge on actuation of the operating member to swing from a working position normally inclined at about 45 degrees to the axis of the handle to a position at right angles thereto and then to fold about a central axis at right angles to the length of the sponge to be squeezed. The sponge is glued to a cloth secured to two squeeze plates 19 and a central plate 11 to which the plates 19 are secured by pin and slot connections 18, 20. The plate 11 is connected by a pivot 14 to the handle and is biassed about said pin to the working position by spring means. The operating means comprises a grip 13 connected to a sleeve 12 slidable along the handle 10 and a bracket 27 secured to the sleeve 12. The two links 28 of the linkage are rigidly secured to the bracket 27 and by universal joints 30, 31, 32 to brackets 33 on the squeeze plates 19. The operating means and linkage are spring biased so as to be urged away from the sponge squeezing position.
