Abstract
780,809. Wringer mops. PHILLIPS TELESCOPIC TAPS, Ltd. June 29, 1955 [July 29, 1954], No. 22135/54. Class 19. A wringer mop comprises a sponge 3 stuck on a pair of backing members 1, 2 which are held together by a band 4 of elastic rubber ; when the backing members are folded on one another to squeeze the sponge, Fig. 4, the band 4 stretches and so pulls the backing members together at the fold end. Brackets 5, 6, fixed by screws on the backing members 1, 2 have L- shaped lugs 7 formed on them which engage in notches 8 in the backing members and which contain recesses retaining the rubber band 4. A rib 9 on the bracket 6 engages a recess on the bracket 5 when in the mopping position. A handle 13 is fixed by bolt 15 in a socket recess 14 in the bracket 6, while a wire ringing handle 10 pivots in a recess 12 in the bracket 5. In lieu of the rubber band 4 a non-elastic flexible strip may be used, tensioned by springs anchored to the backing members, or a C-shaped blade spring may be used, being pivotally connected at each end to one of the backing members.
