Class 89(3) In a stapling machine having a staple driver 6 slidable within a barrel 1, a full-stroke mechanism comprises a spring loaded rockable catch member 11 carried by the driver 6 and a slidable sleeve 15 movable through a limited distance lengthwise of the driver 6 and over the catch member, Near the end of a full driving stroke of the driver 6, the sleeve 15 is arrested by engaging a stop member 10 projecting into the barrel 1, and during completion of the driving stroke relative lengthwise movement between the driver 6 and sleeve 15 causes the sleeve 15 to cover the operative end of the catch member 11 as shown in Fig. 7. With the operative end of the catch member 11 covered by the sleeve 15 the driver 6 can be retracted to its full extent as shown in Fig. 4 to enable another staple to be fed from a magazine 3 into the path of the driving blade 2. In the fully retracted position of the driver 6, the operative end of the catch member is uncovered by the sleeve 11 by reason of engagement of the sleeve 11 with a collar 19. Should the driving stroke be incomplete the operative end of the catch member 11 remains uncovered by the sleeve 15 and in this condition the driver cannot be retracted beyond the point where the operative end of the catch member 11 engages the collar 19 as shown in Fig. 6, and so the blade 2 cannot be sufficiently retracted to permit the feed of another staple from the magazine 3.
